Scouting Report

OVERVIEW

Sullivan's best season with the Tigers came in 2018, when he caught 23 passes for 353 yards and two touchdowns. Then, despite LSU's offensive jump in 2019, Sullivan had just 12 grabs for 130 yards.

But a splashy performance at the Senior Bowl sent Sullivan's stock soaring. He added to it at the NFL Scouting Combine, tying for the second-fastest 40-yard dash (4.65 seconds) among tight ends. He also tied for second-best in the vertical (36 1/2 inches) and broad (123 inches) jumps.

ANALYSIS

Sullivan offers rare athletic tools for the position. The former wide receiver simply kept growing while retaining his initial quickness and speed. Smooth off the snap, fluidly accelerating and showing impressive top-end speed. Strong, aggressive hands to rip free from jams. Towers over defensive backs with above-average height and a massive 85 1/8-inch wingspan. Good timing and explosiveness as a leaper (Hail Mary TD vs. SE Louisiana in 2018). More physical as a blocker than most former receivers, with an aggressive punch.

Sullivan has a high-cut frame that leaves him off-balance and stumbling when bodied up during his route. He is also not the bully after the catch that his size suggests, too often going down to initial contact even from much smaller defenders. Started just 11 games over his career, including three in the past two seasons combined (two in 2019), raising questions for some about his work ethic.

PRO COMPARISON

Darren Waller, Las Vegas Raiders -- Sullivan's modest college production (46 catches for 712 yards, three touchdowns) is troubling, but there were many mouths to feed at LSU. He could emerge as a matchup nightmare in the NFL, just as Waller did this season after playing receiver at Georgia Tech.

Projection: Fifth-Sixth Round
